If you were 17 today, you’d be looking ahead at a long summer. No jobs, no fun, and no idea what school will feel like in the fall. Yet excitement is in the air as the youth-led movement to end police brutality against people of color promises to break down racism in all areas of life.
Game Theory Academy has a plan, and we need your support.
In response to the summer drought of opportunity, we have developed an online pilot of our in-person financial decisions class that will take place through a digital learning platform. Since 2009 GTA has served thousands of youth in school and community settings. The time to go virtual is now.
The format is new, but the mission remains the same. When we launched Game Theory Academy in 2009, America was deep in recession. Teenagers saw their parents lose homes and jobs, and they had to grapple with great uncertainty as they became adults. Game Theory Academy’s classes offered a lens for understanding what was happening in the economy, what the promise of a new president offered, and how their daily decisions add up.
With the onset of the current crisis, as we all struggle with some combination of grief, loneliness, and lost opportunity — let’s create something!
In July, for the first time, GTA is going live, online, for as many sessions as we have funds to cover! Each student who participates and completes the course will earn $50. The stipend acts as a mini portfolio where they can practice what they learn and see how the concepts we teach play out in real decisions.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 by July 1 to get the program running and enroll our first group of students. Give now.
Help us achieve this goal and give young adults a meaningful learning opportunity this summer.
Wishing you good health,
Patricia Johnson
